Ya sea ciudadano o residente, es importante conocer y aprender sobre la vida política de los Estados Unidos.  No podemos quejarnos del gobierno federal, estatal o local si no estamos informamos y participamos en las decisions que afectan nuestra vida cotidiana. Esta importante presentación cubre  temas como:

• Estructura política y  participación ciudadana
• La importancia del voto
• La diferencia entre los partidos Demócrata y Republicano
• El censo y  la composición demográfica de los distritos electorales
• El poder político y el voto hispano en la Florida

Presentadora: Annie Betancourt es directora de la Liga de Mujeres Votantes de la Florida. Como  miembro de la Liga por más de tres décadas, Betancourt ha puesto de manifiesto su verdadera dedicación a la causa de la participación ciudadana y el buen gobierno. Ella obtuvo esta experiencia mediante la realización de campañas para registrar votantes, la supervisión de elecciones locales y  participación en grupos de estudio sobre las políticas fiscales de la Florida.

Hispanic participation the political life in the U.S.
Regardless of your immigration status, it is important to know and keep informed about the political life in the United States. We cannot complain about the federal, state or local laws if we are not informed and participate in the decision-making process that affect our daily lives. This presentation covers important topics such as:
 
•Political structure and citizen participation
•The importance of voting
•The difference between the Democratic and Republican parties
•The census and demographic composition of electoral districts
•Political power and the Hispanic vote in Florida

Guest Speaker: Annie Betancourt is a Director of the League of Women Voters of Florida. A League member for more than three decades, Betancourt has shown true dedication to the cause of citizen participation and good government. She learned the ropes by conducting voter registration drives, monitoring local elections and participating in study groups focusing on Florida's fiscal policies.
